Today marks the 78th International Credit Union Day, and Wisconsin’s credit unions are again demonstrating their year-round commitment to cooperative principles by giving back to their communities.

From October 12-15, over 40 Wisconsin credit unions and The Wisconsin Credit Union League (The League) are participating in CU Community Days, a week-long event where staff roll up their sleeves to help out within their communities. Planned activities include volunteering at food pantries and animal shelters, assembling warming and hygiene kits, cleaning up parks and highways, hosting food and book drives, and more—many as a continuation of ongoing initiatives that occur throughout the year.

This illustration of the cooperative principles of Concern for Community and Cooperation Among Cooperatives fits well with the 2026 International Credit Union theme, “A Steady Signal in a Noisy World,” reminding members that—in a world full of uncertainty and constant change—credit unions remain a steady signal: rooted in trust, people, and community.

So far this year, Wisconsin’s credit unions’ benefit to members has exceeded $867 million through better rates and lower fees, and credit unions have donated $13 million to charities, community projects, and civic groups, along with countless volunteer hours.

The global Credit Union Movement is now more than 400 million members strong, served by more than 67,000 credit unions in 100 countries.
