Legends of The Movement, created by The Foundation in 2024, recognizes trailblazers, visionaries, and dedicated individuals who have made extraordinary and lasting contributions to the Credit Union Movement in Wisconsin, and beyond. Inductees embody the cooperative spirit and exemplify a lifelong commitment to the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.”
The ideal nominees should meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- Has demonstrated exceptional leadership or influence that contributed to the growth, development, or reputation of The Credit Union Movement.
- Has proven track record of innovative practices or initiatives that positively impacted credit unions or the financial well-being of members.
- Has displayed a strong commitment to the eight Credit Union Cooperative Principles, including member economic participation, concern for the community, and collaboration among cooperatives.
- Has made a lasting impact through their contributions at the statewide level, with consideration for national recognition or influence, including advocacy efforts, member service improvements, educational initiatives, or technological advancements.
Nominations may be made posthumously. If the nominee is approved by The Foundation Board of Directors, a donation to The Foundation of $2,500 will be requested from the credit union making the nomination.
Legends inductees will be recognized in communications leading up to The League Convention, during a ceremony at Convention on May 7, 2027 and during a separate summer reception at Credit Union House in Madison on July 13, 2027. Inductees will also receive a commemorative plaque (along with the nominating organization), be listed as a Foundation Patron Donor in their induction year, and have their name permanently displayed in Credit Union House.
Required materials:
- A brief explanation of how the nominee has demonstrated leadership and commitment to The Credit Union Movement in the state of Wisconsin and a biography of the nominee (300-500 words).
- A headshot of the nominee (minimum 800 pixels wide) for presentations at The League Convention, in digital communications, and for acknowledgement in Credit Union House.
Timeline and deadlines:
- Nominations will be accepted through Sunday, January 31, 2027.
- The individual making the nomination will be notified of the results no later than Wednesday, March 31, 2027.
- Selected nominees will the recognized at The League Convention in Wisconsin Dells on Friday, May 7, 2027.
